Difficult access sites - overcoming this using Screw piling

Many of our projects involve issues with access which makes them unsuitable or not cost effective to use traditional groundwork methods.

At Ultimate Screw Piling we have overcome these issues by designing and fabricating a specialist torque head specifically to fit a smaller micro digger.

It means we can squeeze into tighter restricted widths and drive our micro machine into this areas easily.

The use of a micro machine over hand installation for us is by far the safest on site installation option and where possible we will always instruct our team to use a micro machine with our custom torque head to install our screw piles.

Access

Suitability for our micro digger:

Access widths for doorways, side gates or similar from 700mm minimum width. If clear access is available we will use one of our larger machines.

Height restrictions; our custom torque head has been designed in such a way that we have created a 'cranked' torque head frame. This allowed us to move the drive motor lower, which in turn reduces the overall height of the excavator arm when at its full height. With this reduction in working height, we can easily get into a standard height room of 2.4m to install our screw piles.

Rear of Property and Internal Access for Screw Piling

Whether you have a need for screw piling inside your house or to the rear of your property, with our micro digger and custom torque head we can easily access these difficult areas to install our screw piles.

We have even had our mini digger lifted into the rear of a property to install screw piles.

This project involved USP being contracted to install screw piles for our client in Blandford, Dorset.

The client had purchased a shipping container that he was going to turn into a new garden office. We designed a pile layout to suit the required solution and installed piles to suit.

Our access restrictions here were, zero access to the rear of the property and a height of 5 meters above the adjoingin road. So it required our mini digger to be lifted onto / off site using a trailer mounted crane straight from the main road up into the clients rear garden.

Rear small extensions with difficult access are no problem for us.

The project shown here was a project down in Southampton. There was a maximum width restriction down a side access path of 735mm so we (carefully) tracked our micro machine onto site. We completed a small amount of excavation required, then our install team handballed all the screw piles into the rear of the site and installed them to the required height as per the architects set out for the finished floor level.

Once installed, we handed over to the main contractor whos team then installed a concrete slab as per our engineering specification.

Internal Screw piling

Once the first screw pile is installed, where possible, we will use an anchor chain attached to the first pile to help with the rotation of the machine arm to offer additional support and stability.

We are then able to minimise any twisting of the machine if we are trying to achieve a high torque pressure.

Most of our internal screw piling is done using our newsmaller thickness piles, that have a thinner shaft diameter of 50mm and a shorter shaft length of 1000mm. This offers us greater variables of installation.

A great example of our finished screw pile installation.

This project in london had an access width of 750mm and the client was installing a garden room in the rear of the property.

Once we had put together a comprehensive structural engineering solution for the foundation plan, 5 x screw piles were installed in a day to the required heights as set out on the drawings we received.

Our client already had a contractor in place who had done the excavation work prior to our install arrival
